It was one of the biggest interview that i ever appeared for and today it makes me happy that i successfully converted it into success. Offer of appointment is yet to come, but i would like to share my whole experience at the interview.
Reached the venue (CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi) just 15 minutes before the reporting time. Moving on, confirmed the way to the big CGO complex and as stepped in, was guided to 4th floor (may be 5th or 6th does not matter) where in a small seminar-hall we were given a bio-data form which i filled in giving a last thought whether to mention my 8 months of BPO experience or not. After that got all my documents verified and was just asked to queue up for the interview. Met few ahead and one following in the queue, i got more nervous than being overconfident, coz one of them was working with Satyam for last three years.
Nothing in hand and a very confident mind framed up over 25 days and with a final motivational touch by Sahai, i moved in to turn things my way. Unexpectations are always there around me, here it was 7 people comprising the panel. Unexpected things always make me laugh, but i compromised with a smile greeting the panel.
Now the conversation moved on from introduction to every keyword popped out being tagged to give the conversation a new direction.
I would give a smart description by placing keywords to chalk out the battle of Seven vs One.
#BPO
First one and the most stressed was ‘I working with a BPO’.
Reply was “Yes, working as a Tech. Support for multifunction printers in a BPO” after which i explained that what all the support dealt with and how and whom i provided support.
After it i added reason for stepping back to call center industry “It’s all due to my financial needs and liabilities as during recession i didn’t get a good offer to answer my needs, though i am still waiting with less hopes for campus placement to be honored by Mphasis”.
#Mphasis
Few queries about Mphasis came out with replies to what Mphasis is all about and how it’s related to known biggies EDS and HP.
#Call Center
BPO was creating a big buzz on the panel, now a big question was shot ‘How will you setup a call center’
I started off with discussing the verticals and horizontals needed, but was interrupted because they required a technical setup.
I don’t know how i explained it, but the setup went on with computers over a LAN proxied by a proxy server for Internet connectivity. Then were softwares and configurations and also providing access to ERP or CRM that the client provides.
Next keyword came from the installation of Active Directory.
#Active Directory
Explained the purpose for using active directory. But every one wanted to know about the communication between client nodes and servers. I explained that there will be a profile with permissions and acess-parameters for every user which will be mapped on to the nodes where users logs in after successful authentication. Though i was interuppted by only one in the panel as he said “You think that every thing you are talking about is well understood”. I calmly explained the whole process in a better way.
#Routing
Next to tag was routing. Now the explanation ended at a very high abstraction level. I didn’t knew the actual setup, but intelligently kept on repeating what all i used to see daily at my office. It all included Avaya/Nortel instruments and a Call Management System giving a track of all calls routed by call-routing- switch.
#Linux
Linux was a tag that i intelligently gave to the panel by telling them what all i knew. Though i was not able to answer one of the few questions, it was worth pushing linux into discussion.
Then it followed with random questions, out of which i answered few and skipped some of them due to quick and random questionnaire. Questions included favorite subjects and project.
I was asked that what all i have done into web development and about an open source software in market similar to my project. Skipping the first question, i went thinking about open source software and ending not answering it
This was the only part which pulled me down to the nervous state.
This is all that i did at the interview and found that it was a quite different interview than usual NIC pattern which proved to be a luck by chance.
All the best ~ justgurpreet
