Hp printer usb install gets stuck at step 7/8

printerTroubleshooting hp printers for a long time and this is one of the issues that comes over usually, which is not printer’s defect but a minor issue of permissions for “plug and play” on your computer. I have been trying this for a long time and has been a sure shot solution.

Follow simple steps to get it installed :

  1. Open Task Manager and end the processes hpzdui.exe and hpzsetup.exe.
  2. Open registry editor. Go to run, type “regedit” and hit enter to get it explored.
  3. Now browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\PnP .
  4. Make a right click on PnP and then click on permissions option to open   the permissions window for ‘plug-n-play’.
  5. Now select each user and give full control to them, then add a user “Everyone” and give full control to it too.
  6. Restart computer and restart the usual installation.

Spot on! Works like a charm! Thanks!

Thanks, it worked for me but then i got another different error later on. Im really sick of this device, every time i try to install it i get nothing but headaches, hours spent to install this god damn printer. What is even more annoying is that i have owned this device for a few years now and, like Gurpreet said, HP doesnt seem to be able to fix these issues. HP products NEVER EVER AGAIN, im really SICK of them.

I gave it a try, but it didn’t work for me. The irony is that I’m trying to install it on a HP notebook (with Windows XP)… I also uninstalled previous HP software, stopped / killed background processes, disabled anti-virus (AVG)… I guess it’s time to give up. 😦

Also, thank you for allowing me to comment!
